Hah - the joke is on me.... I brought Clark home on a Monday night, he was neutered the following Wednesday. Poppy came into heat that same day. She waited 14 months before her first heat, so this was really unexpected (at least to me). She is now in standing heat, and I have been informed by Jen (my vet) that it will take 4 weeks before Clark can reliably be called sterile.
Poppy is repeatedly throwing herself on Clark and I am spending a lot of time keeping them apart. This adds a whole new level of complication to our lives -we are a house divided - and I am very tired.
There is a strongly possibility that the puppies born to the chow mix across the street that resembled black Labradors were sired by my mom's Lab Chase who have been neutered several weeks prior. I do not envy you right now, very difficult.
