And you think it can never happen to you

On Monday there was the first of what would become a trend, strangers sticking needles into my right breast.   I don't want to meet anyone new for a while.

It's amazing how that diagnosis changes everything. It's Saturday, and I am missing several lymph nodes, some parts of my right breast and am in the process of becoming a breast cancer survivor.

And I am lucky -  my surgeon is known for pioneering lymph gland detection and gives really good hugs.  It was exactly 5 days from biopsy to surgery.  The margins of the calcifications are clear and the 2 lymph nodes that they removed - pending final pathology are not invaded.

It appears that Harley and Jack will have to wait a while more before we meet again.

Maybe I will become one of those people with the breast cancer awareness license plates and pink shirts.

Death is a given for all of us, it's a hard lesson when it becomes a personal possibility.

As soon as I am healed, I will have a catheter (yet another stranger with a needle) installed and radiation treatments given 2x daily for 5 days.

Then maybe I can get my life back.
