Went to the chemotherapy oncologist today. Unexpectedly, I liked her. For one thing - she did not cut me open - (my criteria for liking people has definately dropped a notch). Secondly - she said with the cancer that I had, the 5 year pill would be for prevention and she is not sure that she would recommend it for me. She discussed diet and lifestyle as more important cancer prevention - that's fairly radical in the medical profession that I've seen.
I have (according to her) a 1 percent chance of having breast cancer either in the same breast or the other for every year that I live . If I had never had cancer - my percentage would be .5 or roughly half. The pill would bring it down to that same .5.
But she said, the studies showed survival rate was the same in women with the breast cancer that I had, whether they took the 5 year pill or not. The reason for that is the close monitoring that occurs - I will have a mammogram every 6 months for the next 5 years and if something would return - it would be caught in the early stages.
Nice doctor - good eye contact - asked me how I felt about the Savi catheter now. I told her that it was awful and she confirmed that most women said that and worse things.
Went to work and got to interview a person who is applying to be my manager - nice and fairly radical to be included in the decision making process.
Good day.
I'm SO glad it turned out the way I thought it might, and especially glad that you liked the doc -- that makes such a difference.
